The 2018 Kia Niro gets new technology, including Amazon's Alexa

Kia Gets Tech Upgrade

As it continues its path of forward progress, Kia has announced some new tech upgrades that will improve user interface and customer satisfaction. These new tech implements come in the form of Niro Skill and a hands-free voice recognition system. Niro Skill allows customers to learn more about the new Kia Niro while using Amazon’s Alexa. The hands-free voice recognition system is currently in development.

The voice recognition software is not a product solely from Kia’s production team. Rather, the Korean tech firm Kakao has teamed up with Hyundai and Kia to develop the system. Kakao has taken the helm in the project, leading the way into developing a hands free system for Kia and Hyundai vehicles. Kia and Hyundai have been integral to the process, however aiding in the development. The AI tech that will be installed into the vehicles is from Kakao, dubbed ‘Kakao I’.

Customers will have to wait a while until the ‘Kakao I’ becomes available. The companies will begin the integration process in a few select vehicles; it is not clear when this product will be widespread. However, Niro Skill has already hit the market. The goal of Niro Skill is to allow those interested in the new crossover learn about the vehicle.

Users are able to ask Amazon Alexa virtually anything about the Niro, and she will give them precise answers. Users can find out specs about the vehicle, as well as check availability at local dealers. You will even be able to schedule a test drive of the new crossover by using Alexa. Due to the success and ease of using Alexa, Kia, like many other manufacturers, may continue integrating the technology even further into their lineup.
